IBESA's goal is to identify markets with potential at an early stage and promote the blossoming of the energy storage industry worldwide. Brazil seems particularly promising right now: The country has enormous access to renewable energy resources such as wind and solar energy and the government is interested in the expansion of decentralized energy supply systems, in particular for the benefit of currently underserved areas of the country.

Brazilian authorities in the renewables sector, such as the National Grid Operator (ONS) or the National Agency of Electricity (ANEEL), are registering increasing importance of on-site energy generation and thus the urgent need to promote financing and governmental support especially in the field of energy storage. Although the industry is still in its infancy, it is easy to predict that much will happen in the coming years. Ambitious projects are already underway and forward-thinking players are keen to exchange ideas on how to reduce the cost of energy storage systems, to best solve current regulation, financing, performance, and safety issues.
